Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: www.grg.org.nz
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust New Zealand is a registered not for profit organisation that provides nationwide support services, to around 7500 full time grandparent and whanau carers in New Zealand.
For more than 95% of the families we work with, the grandparents have become full-time caregivers as a result of a traumatic event or family breakdown where there have been serious issues with the parents. Often it is due to drugs and/or alcohol abuse, violence, neglect, mental illness, imprisonment, or death of one or both parents. If it weren't for the grandparents/kin taking on the responsibility for the care of the grandchildren/kin, the children would be faced with state care. The fallout for both the grandchildren and grandparents is life changing and requires a deep understanding of their needs as they work to reform their family and rebuild the lives of the children.

Hearts and Minds (formerly Raeburn House) - Support Services Directory: https://www.heartsandminds.org.nz/directory-of-support-services
Hearts & Minds started out in 1978 under the auspices of Mental Health Service of the Area Health Board and in 1984 became the North Shore Community Health Network Inc (commonly known as Raeburn House). In 2017 in response to community feedback, we changed our name to Hearts & Minds NZ to better reflect our focus on the whole-of-person to whole-of-community approach to wellbeing. We are a wellbeing catalyst providing community development, support, resources and information to individuals and communities, with an emphasis on affordability and accessibility.
Over the last 40+ years, the organisation grew its reach, credibility and impact to the wider community and is highly respected by General Practitioners, Psychologists, Clinicians, Waitemata District Health Board, Auckland Council, Community, and those whom we have journeyed with to support them on their wellbeing pathways. We recently underwent a name change to “Hearts & Minds”, a brand that symbolises the services we now provide for the ‘whole person’.
